Course FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about our introductory self-management course for people with CFS and fibromyalgia.
When does class start?
The course is offered four times a year: January, April, July and October. For starting dates of upcoming classes, see the Schedule page.
How much time does it take?
- You can spend as much or as little time as you want. The average is two or three hours a week.
Why should I take the course?
Studies of self-management classes like ours have shown that participants learn how to reduce their symptoms, mitigate the effects of negative emotions and feel more in control of their lives. Also, meeting others who share a similar condition can counteract isolation and provide inspiration and support.
Do I need special software or computer skills?
Who created the course?
The course was developed by Bruce Campbell, Ph.D., a recovered ME/CFS patient who before becoming ill worked on self-help programs for chronic illness at the Stanford University Medical School. For more on his background, see his biography.
Do you offer any other classes or groups?
What is the difference between the online Introductory Course and the Self-Study CDs?
- The online Introductory Course provides a moderated interactive experience with a group of about 15 to 18, who share their experiences with the course principles and support each other in applying the principles to their lives. The Self-Study CDs present an audio explanation of the principles of our program, summarizing the basic points and giving ideas for practical application.
